The Beatles - Abbey Road Vs Revolver

!±8± The Beatles - Abbey Road Vs Revolver

Between 1966's Revolver and 1969's Abbey Road (the last album The Beatles recorded) there was Sgt. Pepper, Magical Mystery Tour, The White Album, Yellow Submarine, & Let It Be (although it wasn't released until 1970, it had already been recorded.) It's truly incredible how much great music The Beatles recorded in such a short period of time.

This article compares Revolver and Abbey Road. Both are truly great albums. For me, neither is quite as great as The White Album & Sgt. Pepper but that doesn't make me appreciate either of these albums less, as they are truly remarkable even 40 years later.

I think Revolver is a more consistant album mostly because "Yellow Submarine" is a better track than "Octopus's Garden." The songwriting on Revolver is at an incredibly high level. Songs like "Eleanor Rigby," "Here, There And Everywhere," "I'm Only Sleeping," & "For No One" show The Beatles to be at the peak of their game.

On the other hand, Abbey Road is a more cohesive album. It does, after all, have the medley on side two where the songs all blend together. It's also The Beatles most "modern" sounding album (mostly because it was their only album recorded on the new 8 track studio at Abbey Road.)

And it's not like Abbey Road doesn't have great songs too. How about "Something," "Come Together," "Here Comes The Sun," & "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" just for starters.

So, in the end, what would be my choice if I had to choose just one or the other? I think I would have to go for Revolver because of it's slightly higher level of songwriting and that it's just a more adventerous album (see: "Tomorrow Never Knows.") This decision is in no way a put down of Abbey Road, it's just that Revolver is that good!

Starter Drum Sets For Children - Why Buying a Used Child Drum Set is a Great Option For a Parent

!±8± Starter Drum Sets For Children - Why Buying a Used Child Drum Set is a Great Option For a Parent

Starting a young one on a musical instrument early in life is very popular, and while many parents aren't brave enough to buy a kids drum set, drumming can be a great activity for young kids. Learning the basics of drumming will not only teach your child a skill for life, but instill important rhythm skills that are translatable to many musical instrument and many other endeavors such as sports as well. Plus, there are many more starter drum sets on the market today than ever before, and the quality has risen as prices have gone down. However if you are a parent looking for a child drum set, you should carefully look at buying a used child drum kit.

Most major manufacturers of drum kits will now offer smaller, less extensive versions of their kits design for children. You will find mini drum kits for little ones as young as 3, but also junior drum sets appropriate for kids into their teens. The quality is also solid enough to last for a long time, even if you child puts a lot of wear into the set (the drum heads are replaceable anyway). The junior drum kits referred to are not "toys", but real instruments and drums sets that make excellent sound, good enough to compliment a band if your young one is lucky enough to join some guitar and bass playing partners.

When searching for a kids drum kit to buy, parents have several options. In the past musical instruments were bought from small, locally owned music outfits that while helpful to consumers, had limited selections. Recently, larger music chains such as Guitar Center and Musician's Friend appeared which are still focused on music but offer a wider selection and often lower prices. Many parents today will also end up acquiring their child's beginner drums at a mass merchandiser like Wal-Mart, Target, or Sears, or a consumer store like Best Buy. However there is another option many choose that often is the most favorable of all.

Used starter drums can make a lot of sense for parents for many obvious reasons. First of all, there are a number of them on the market. Since young drummers who end up enjoying drumming always eventually grow out of their original drum kit, they go on to buy full sized drums. This means their old starter drum kit(which normally is in good condition) is available for sale, and at a great price. Parents can locate these used drum sets for kids being "handed" down in numbers, especially on sites like eBay, where many of musical instruments are auctioned almost constantly.

Another smart reason for buying your youngster a used drum kit is hedging your bet on your little one's future in drumming. How is your jr drummer going to enjoy drums going forward? There is always the chance that your child will play on his drums for a few days, get bored, and be finished with them forever. While this may not happen with your child, it does happen, and if you buy used drums, you've made a smaller investment in something that didn't last very long. Your options are to pass it on to another child, or sell it back on eBay and recoup whatever investment you already made.

Buying a used child drum set can be excellent approach for parents considering their child's first drum kit. Many drummers began on a used set, and there's no shame in it. In fact, many times drummers have a hard time parting with first set, even it was used and even if a new set is ready for them. If you are a parent looking for a junior drum kit, definitely think about purchasing used.

A drum kit (also drum set,[1] or trap set) is a collection of drums, cymbals and often other percussion instruments, such as cowbells, wood blocks, triangles, chimes, or tambourines, arranged for convenient playing by a single person (drummer). The individual instruments of a drum kit are hit by a variety of implements held in the hand, including sticks, brushes, and mallets. Two exceptions include the bass drum, played by a foot-operated pedal, and the hi-hat cymbals, which may be struck together using a foot pedal in addition to being played with sticks or brushes. Although other instruments can be played using a pedal, the feet are usually occupied by the bass drum and hi hat, and as a result the drummer often plays in a seated position. Percussion notation is often used by drummers to signify which drum kit components are to be played. A full size drum kit without any additional percussion instruments includes a bass drum, floor tom, snare drum, tom-toms, and a variety of cymbals including hi-hat cymbals, a ride cymbal and one or more crash cymbals. The exact set-up is dictated by the type of music played and the drummer's personal preferences. For example, in most forms of rock music, the bass drum, hi-hat and snare drum are the primary instruments used to create a drum beat, whereas in jazz, ride and snare patterns tend to be more prevalent and the hi-hat is played with the foot. Drum kits have ranged in size and components from old style jazz/dance hall kits ...

The DM10 Studio Kit is professional, six-piece electronic drum set with natural-feeling RealHead drum pads, low-noise DMPad Cymbals, the groundbreaking DM10 drum module, and a compact, flexible StageRack. You will immediately notice the DM10 module’s outstanding sound quality. This new drum sound module contains true drum, cymbal and percussion sounds, built from real samples of classic studio drums and prized cymbals. Drummers will find some of the most in-demand acoustic drum sounds from legendary drum brands, a huge arsenal of top producers' go-to snare drums, real American, Canadian, Chinese, and Turkish cymbals, and a choice selection of classic drum machine and electronic percussion sounds that have fueled the biggest hit records. Discerning ears will notice that each sound is actually a series of different samples; multiple dynamic-level samples and articulations are all built in so as you play harder and softer, the drum or cymbal changes its timbre, not just its volume. This engineered realism is known as Dynamic Articulation™, an Alesis exclusive. You can play with or without reverb for different room sounds and enjoy a wide variety of rimshots, rim clicks and different stick-placement sounds on the cymbals. For example, a hi-hat’s sound depends on a number of factors: how open or closed the pedal is, how hard it is struck, and other variables resulting in 40 different sounds – plus foot chick and heel splash. The DM10 module not only has a breathtaking collection of sounds onboard, it is also the world's first drum-sound module that enables you to load new sound sets via USB connection from your computer. This means that your sounds will always stay fresh, current and cutting edge.

Yamaha Dtxplorer Electronic Drum Set

!±8± Yamaha Dtxplorer Electronic Drum Set

The Yamaha Dtxplorer Electronic Drum Set has to be one of the most user-friendly, well priced and versatile drum kits on the market. This kit suits both the beginner looking to get into drumming and not knowing where to start as well as the professional who is looking for a quieter smaller kit to add to their quiver of drum kits.

As with all electronic drum kits, the Yamaha Dtxplorer Electronic Drum Set provides the user with a lot quieter experience than what they're used to with their acoustic drum kits. With a decent set of headphones, you can happily play your drum kit at any time of the day and even if you leave close to your neighbors, these types of kits won't bother them. Plug in your mp3 player and play along with your favorite artists and see how your drumming stacks up. If you're not up to playing along to an mp3, then you can also play along to the many demo songs which are pre-programmed into the Dtxplorer trigger module which is essentially your control center for an electronic drum kit. The demo songs range from jazz to reggae and you can mute the drums of these songs so that you can play along with them uninfluenced by what you can hear.

If you're having trouble keeping time, the Dtxplorer comes with an inbuilt metronome or click track. The tempo can be set on the trigger module yourself or a great way to do it is to count in your own tempo. Do this by setting the 'tap tempo function' and then hitting any pad on the dtxplorer to the tempo you want the metronome to come in at. This is a great function if you're more of a 'play by feel' type drummer. As well as this 'counting in' method, you can also set the metronome sounds, tune and also create breaks in the click track.

Also another great idea that Yamaha have come up with if you're looking to improve your playing is the 'groove check function'. This essentially does as its name suggests. It scores you after you play along with a song or the metronome and lets you know your timing compares withe the clock on the song or metronome. This is a great feature for all beginner and advanced drummers as speeding up during a song (especially in live songs) can really ruin the tempo of the band. Also, if you're about to record songs in a studio, practicing with this can really improve your timing for when you lay down the drum tracks on which all other instruments are based.

Finally, the Yamaha Dtxplorer Electronic Drum Set can be transported easily from home to a gig or to a rehearsal room and back again. The kit easily folds in on itself and as long as you look after the cords, you'll never go back to your acoustic kit. They also sound great through a PA system at live gigs which is another great option if the venue you're playing at is small and the drum stage is narrow.
